Hi, I’m Lauryn, I’m an account executive at Diversity.
A couple of months ago I was set the task to become a sustainability advocate to develop our business’ sustainability journey and I attended The Sustainability Community Lab (SCL) at Nottingham Trent University.
An eight-week programme
The SCL is an ERDF-funded sustainability course for young professionals in Nottingham. The goal for attending the SCL was to learn all about sustainability, why it’s important, why we need to act now, and how to go about it.
The programme was broken up into three sections:
- Holistic and intersectional sustainability
- Sustainability in business
- Sustainability advocacy
These sessions gave me extensive insight into why sustainability is essential, and how just the smallest of steps, such as recycling your store-bought lunch packets, can go a long way!
The course opened my eyes up to a lot of things and made me realise we have a lot to work on. However, this didn’t demotivate me – I’m excited knowing there’s lots of great stuff we can work towards and achieve.
It was great to be able to share our journey and experiences with SMEs who attended these sessions, as we took away lots of learnings and were able to support each other.
Our 2023 sustainability goals
Follow our pledge to SME Climate Hub
By the end of the eight weeks, I developed a sustainability business proposal where I collated all my learnings and put them into a plan of action. This starts with educating my colleagues, measuring and understanding our carbon emissions, and where/how we need to reduce them by setting out short, medium, and long-term goals.
- Follow our pledge to SME Climate Hub
- Halve our emissions by 2030
- Move towards a more circular global economy
- B-Corp Certified
What we’ve done so far
We are now a proud member of the SME Climate Hub – a global initiative that empowers small to medium sized companies to take climate action and build more resilient businesses.
Through the SME Climate Hub, we commit to lowering our impact on the environment through authentic action, halving our emissions by 2030. By making the commitment, we have joined the United Nations Race to Zero Campaign.
This is only the start of our journey, and I’m excited to see what we will achieve.
